Timeline of NYA's Petition

• January 30, 1981 - FDA finalizes yogurt standard of identity


• September 21, 1982 - FDA amends and stays select provisions


• November 9, 1995 - FDA proposes to revoke the standards of identity for lowfat yogurt and nonfat yogurt


• February 18, 2000 - NYA files its Citizen Petition, requesting a modernization of the yogurt standard of identity


• July 3, 2003 - FDA publishes an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking announcing NYA's Citizen Petition


• January 27, 2004 - Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking comment period closes, following an extension


• December 7, 2004 - FDA publishes Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) priorities for 2005, which identify as a "B" priority the "Development of a proposed rule to amend the standard of identity for yogurt"
